Saxonia was one of the four Yuanzu models launched during the Lange revival in 1994 and played a central role in the brand's revival. From large dates borrowed from Lange 1 to small diamond timepieces identical to Tourbillon Pour le Merite, early Saxonia's designs captured the zeitgeist. The round case, introverted size and symmetrical dial layout combined to create a sophisticated dress watch suited to the tastes of the time. The first Saxonia, model 102.001, was made of gold with a silver dial and a closed case. Three years later, A. Lange & Sohne expanded the Saxonia collection with platinum and white gold cases, as well as versions with an integrated bracelet or inlaid with precious stones, but both were produced in small quantities. This particular 105.035, produced between 1997 and 2002, combines a classic platinum case with a black dial, especially a calendar display with white letters on a black background. The 105.035 features a symmetrical dial that is both clear and easy to read and beautifully balanced. Everything from the thickness of the various fonts to the clever use of white space has been well thought out. The most notable feature of this particular version is the calendar dial with white lettering on a black background, affectionately known as "Darth" by Lange enthusiasts. The A. Lange & Sohne logo is split in two on each side of the dial, an unusual layout rarely seen on later Lange watches. The white print used for the brand name, as well as the hour scale, stands out against the black background. Meanwhile, the diamond-shaped timepiece, as well as the hour, minute and second hands, are made of platinum and complement the case. The small second disc is cleverly dimmed, adding depth and clarity. The fast-forward date button at 2 o 'clock is a reminder that Lange has added efficient and useful complexity to an otherwise simple design. The case measures 34mm x 9mm, is made of platinum and features the brand's unique 3-layer case design. The beauty of the movement is as impressive as the mechanics, chamfered and polished by hand and visible through the sapphire base cover. In addition, it is very artistic, the balance wheel cleats were carved by one of Lange's master carvers. It is said that the unique carving style of each watchmaker can be recognized by different styles.
